National Merit Winners

Twenty-two CFISD students who were confirmed as semifinalists in the 60th annual National Merit Scholarship Program will be honored at a National Merit recognition program at the Berry Center on Monday, Feb. 2, 2015—along with Commended, National Hispanic and National Achievement scholars.

National Merit semifinalists from Cypress Creek High School are:Rebekah CookTravis JohnsonNaren Makkapati and Elliot Matson.


NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The 22 semifinalists, of the 16,000 throughout the U.S. selected by officials of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, now have the opportunity to win one of approximately 8,000 Merit Scholarship awards. Semifinalists placed among the top 1 percent and Commended Students placed among the top 3 percent of about 1.5 million students who entered the Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) during their junior year. CFISD had 82 total Commended Students.

THE NATIONAL HISPANIC RECOGNITION PROGRAM
The National Hispanic Recognition Program provides national recognition of the exceptional academic achievements of Hispanic high school seniors and identifies them for postsecondary institutions. Thirty-seven Hispanic Scholars have been recognized as Scholars by the College Board’s National Recognition Program.

They are among a select group of 5,000 of the highest-scoring students from more than 250,000 Hispanic/Latino high school juniors who took the PSAT/NMSQT.

From Cypress Creek High School, Julia Anderson was named a Hispanic Scholars.

Cypress Creek Choir Students earn 142 1st Division Superior Medals at UIL Solo and Ensemble Competition

On Saturday, January 24, Cypress Creek High School Choir students competed in UIL Solo and Ensemble competition at Cypress Lakes High School in CFISD. The Choir students earned 1421st Division Superior medals.

38   1st Division Superior Class III medals were earned
58  1st Division Superior Class II medals were earned

            and

46  1st Division Superior Class I medals, the most difficult and rigorous category of UIL music, were earned.

Bass, Geaslen, McGlamery and Rogers selected for Academic All State Girls Soccer Team

Erin Bass, Brooke Geaslen, Reilly Mcglamery And Emily Rogers have been selected to the academic all state girls soccer team.  These girls had to have a 90 or above average during their four years of high school.  This is a great achievement for Erin, Brooke, Reilly And Emily. Congratulations on being selected to the All State Team! 

Darby Hargrove selected as Vype Magazine's Preseason Girls' Soccer Player of the Year

DARBEY HARGROVE WAS THE WINNNER OF THE  VYPE’S PRESEASON GIRLS’ SOCCER PLAYER OF THE YEAR.  SHE WILL BE FEATURED IN THE FEBRUARY EDITION OF VYPE MAGAZINE. DARBEY WON WITH 4,468 VOTES! THANKS TO ALL WHO VOTED. CONGRATULATIONS TO DARBEY AND TO HER TEAMMATES FOR ALL THEIR SUPPORT!


UCTV students advance to Round 2 at State UIL competion

Out of nearly 1,000 entries from across Texas, Cy Creek’s UCTV students produced THREE videos selected to advance to Round 2 at state UIL competition. We submitted three, we advanced three. We’re awesome like that. Congratulations to Eric Estepp, Hayden Geary, and Joshua Ricks for directing these three short films. Good luck in the next round at state UIL.

Congratulation to our All State Choir Members

Congratulations to the three 2014-15 Cypress Creek All-State Choir Members

Nathan Ponder, Tenor 1, All-State Mixed Choir   Matt Ramsdal, Bass 1, All-State Men’s Choir,  and Jordan Reynolds, Tenor 2, All-State Men’s Choir,  competed in San Antonio Sunday against the top 20 students from 120 schools in Austin, San Antonio and Houston to earn  top positions in the TMEA All-State Choir. They have competed in four rigorous auditions to earn this special recognition. Annually, 40,000 students try out for this
honor. This places them in the top 1% of singers in the state of Texas.

Nathan Ponder, Matt Ramsdal, and Jordan Reynolds will attend the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in February 11-14 at San Antonio for this special honor.

Nathan Ponder, Tenor 1, has earned the honor of All-State Choir for the 2nd year in a row. This is a very difficult honor to achieve. We congratulate him on attaining this outstanding achievement.

Cy Creek student named to the All-Greater Houston Preseason High School Baseball Team

Cypress Creek High School senior pitcher Jordan Hicks, was named to the All-Greater Houston Preseason High School Baseball Team. Jordan will be recognized at the Third Annual Sugar Land Skeeters Hot Stove Banquet on Jan. 22 at Constellation Field, where he will be named to the Houston Area Baseball Coaches Association (HABCA) All-Greater Houston Preseason High School Baseball Team.




The banquet will include a candid guest panel featuring former Major Leaguer and Skeeters Manager Gary Gaetti, as well as Houston Astros legend Larry Dierker. Special advisor to the Skeeters and former president and GM of the Houston Astros Tal Smith will also be present on the panel. The Skeeters will also hold a silent auction benefiting the Skeeters Foundation, helping promote youth education and health while giving funds to help related projects or experiences for the diverse, youth populations of those undeserved in the Houston area.

Silver Medal earned by student newspaper and news website

The student newspaper and news website of Cypress Creek High School was awarded a silver medalist rating with the Columbia Scholastic Press Association in the Hybrid Print/Digital category. This award represents the program’s successful transition from a traditional print publication to a combination print/online publication. Print issues from the 2013-2014 school year were judged along with recent online content.
