SWIMMERS FINISH SEASON STRONG AT STATE COMPETITION

The Cypress Creek High School boys placed 29th overall with 21 points. The Cougars had a 10th-place finish in the 100 backstroke from junior Zac Hawes (59.06), an 11th-place finish in the 100 backstroke from junior Jared Wallace (51.64) and a 13th-place finish in the 200 medley relay from team members Jared WallaceZac HawesRiley O’Hara and Chase Gonzales (1:37.43).

VARSITY TENNIS PARTICIPATES IN COPPERFIELD QUAD

The Varsity Tennis Team participated in the “Copperfield Quad” Friday.

GIRL'S VARSITY TRACK AND FIELD ARE VICTORIOUS AT WILL TAYLOR RELAYS

The Cy-Creek Girls Varsity Track and Field team competed at the Will Taylor Relays this Saturday hosted by Spring Branch Memorial High School. 

The girls team scored 141 points and were the 2016 Team Champions.

First Place Finishers: 
Teressia Grant-Corsey in the 100m Dash, Kristina Ricks in the 200m Dash, Morgan Michals in the 1600m Run, and  Cierra Gordon in the Shot Put.

Second Place Finishers:
3x100 Shuttle Hurdle Relay  made up of Shannon Dalene, Katie Walter, and Reese Hebert,
1600 Sprint Medley Relay made up of Emily Hundley, I'Taunna Anderson, Darrian Johnson, and Kaytie Lee, and 4x400m Relay Emily Hundley, Darrian Johnson, Kristina Ricks, and  I'Taunna Anderson. 

Third Place Finishers:
Katie Walter in the 100m Hurdles and Teressia Grant-Corsey in the Long Jump.

Fourth Place Finishers:
Distance Medley Relay  made up of Kaytie Lee, Emily Hundley, Darrian Johnson, and Morgan Michals. 
Katie Walter in the 300 Hurdles and Cierra Gordon in the Discus Throw.

Fifth Place Finishers:
4x100m Relay made up of Teressia Grant-Corsey, Kristina Ricks, Alexis Woodard, and I'Taunna Anderson.

Sixth Place Finishers
Brittany Thomas in the 100m Hurdles, Shannon Dalene in the 300m Hurdles, Kristina Ricks in the Long Jump, Darrian Johnson in the Triple Jump, and Megan DeRouen in the 3200m.

Other athletes competing were:

Varsity will compete at the Strake Jesuit Invitational on Saturday at Strake Jesuit High School. Events begin at 9:00 a.m.

On January 26th the Jv /Freshman tennis team competed in our first CyFair Invitational of the year.

On Tuesday, February 16  the JV/Freshman tennis team competed in The Woodlands Invitational.

HOLA, YLPA, YMPA ATTEND LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE


Cypress Creek High School excelled at the CFISD HOLA/YLPA/YMPA Leadership Conference at the Berry Center on Saturday February 13, 2016.  Cy -Creek had two of the presenters in the program. A big thanks to  Michael Contreras whose presentation was  “Of Course You Should Choose Me” dealing with interview skills and William Bozic who gave the presentation “#FlintMatters” dealing with the service project concerning the water crisis in Flint Michigan.

Vallorie Mason supervised the Cy Creek YLPA, Clarence Porter  supervised the Cy Creek YMPA, and Ruth Cassidy supervised the Cy Creek HOLA.

We are so proud of our students who are working hard to make a difference in the community and to improve their leadership skills. 

36 CFISD WRESTLERS QUALIFY FOR STATE TOURNAMENT

Feb. 15, 2016—Thirty-six wrestlers from all 10 CFISD high schools placed in the top four of their respective weight classes at the Region III Wrestling Championships Feb. 12-13 at the Merrell Center in Katy to qualify for the UIL Class 6A Wrestling Championships, scheduled for Feb. 19-20 at the Berry Center.
In the boys’ tournament, Cypress Woods High School placed third with 101 points behind regional champion Katy (135) and runner-up The Woodlands (103). Cypress Lakes High School tied for fourth with Seven Lakes with 96 points. Jersey Village High School was CFISD’s other top-10 finisher in ninth place with 74 points.

Cypress Falls High School freshman Isaiah Calderon won the regional championship in the 106-pound bracket, defeating Langham Creek’s Nomar Belmonte via a 5-4 decision. Calderon was named Region III Most Outstanding Male Wrestler for his performance.
CFISD’s other boys’ regional champion is Cypress Woods juniorHenry Rossiter, who pinned Morton Ranch’s Connor McBride to win the 182-pound title.

In the girls’ tournament, Langham Creek High School placed a close second to champion Cinco Ranch (109 points) with 108 total points.Cypress Falls (69.5 points), Cypress Ridge (63.5 points) andCypress Lakes (53 points) rounded out CFISD’s top-10 finishers at seventh, eighth and 10th places, respectively.

More than 60 CFISD athletes signed letters of intent to play collegiate athletics for colleges or universities on National Signing Day, Feb. 3.
“The athletics department is proud of the athletic and academic achievements of all of today’s signees,” said Ray Zepeda, associate director of athletics. “It is always amazing to see so many kids representing Cypress-Fairbanks ISD getting a chance to accomplish their dream of continuing to play their sport at the collegiate level. We congratulate our student-athletes and their families on this incredible achievement and look forward to watching them compete at the next level.”

SCIENCE UIL TEAM EARNS FIRST PLACE AT KLEIN INVITATIONAL

Today, our Science UIL team came in FIRST at the Klein Invitational competition.  For individual overall competition, Timothy Yang came in 2nd place with a silver medal and Chantal Thantrong came in 3rd with a bronze medal!  Ten of our 21 students on the team will advance to the Magnolia invitational on Sat. , Feb. 13th. 

BOYS SWIM TAKES 2ND AT DISTRICT MEET; GIRLS TAKE 3RD

Cypress Creek High School junior Zac Hawes competes in the 100 breaststroke event at the District 17-6A Swimming and Diving Championships, taking first place with a time of 1:01.37. Hawes also won first place as a part of the Cougars’ 200 medley relay team and in the 200 individual medley.
The Cypress Ranch High School boys’ and girls’ swim teams won their respective team titles in the District 17-6A Swimming and Diving Championships, held Jan. 29-30 at Cypress Springs and Cypress Ranch high schools.
The Cypress Ranch boys won with a score of 124, followed by runner-up Cypress Creek (111) and third-place Langham Creek (90).
Cypress Creek High School junior Zac Hawes had another outstanding performance in the swim meet, winning the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke individual events, then winning first with the Cougars’ 200 medley relay team.
“It shows that my hard work has paid off throughout the season,” Hawes said. “The goal all year has been to go to state, so we’ll know after next weekend.”

Cypress Ranch High School juniors Luke Bowman and Madison Kinsey were named Male and Female Swimmers of the Meet, respectively.
Cypress Ranch clinched its third consecutive girls’ title with 182.5 points ahead of runner-up Cypress Woods (151.5) and third-place Cypress Creek (77). It marked the second straight season for both the Mustangs boys’ and girls’ to clinch district championships.
“This means a lot,” said Bryan Hutchinson, Cypress Ranch head swim coach. “The girls have stuck together, they’re a great group with a ton of seniors and it’s been fun watching them win the past three titles now. On the boys’ side, we weren’t sure what we were going to do but it was a total team effort. We had people score one point here, one point there and it came down to five points in the last relay. It was outstanding.”

Hutchinson was named Coach of the Year for the Mustangs’ success. Cypress Ranch juniors Luke Bowman and Madison Kinsey were named Male and Female Swimmer of the Meet, respectively.
Kinsey won the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly individual events, and was a member of the winning 400 freestyle relay team. Bowman won the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke individual events, and was a member of both the first-place 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay teams.

“Both of them are complete team players and they wanted to perform the best they could,” Hutchinson said. “They came up huge in individual events and were key in the relays. Both Luke and Madison worked hard, and they did outstanding today.”
