More than 150 CFISD students were among 1,357 regional winners from 18 Harris County school districts in the 2015 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, hosted by the Harris County Department of Education (HCDE).
The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards provide teen artists and writers in grades 7-12 with the opportunity to showcase their work as it identifies and documents their outstanding achievements. The competition’s mission is to bring outstanding visual art and writing to a national audience by showcasing work and encouraging young students’ creative journeys and career development.
Students were recognized with Gold Key, Silver Key and honorable mention awards. In 2015, Harris County students earned 424 awards in writing and 933 awards in art. CFISD students won 170 of the 1,357 awards. The regional competition featured 4,256 entries, judged by local and national art and writing professionals who volunteered their time.
Gold Key art awardees (203); Gold Key writing awardees (80); and American Visions and American Voices nominees (10) will advance to the national competition in New York City. National medalists will be announced on March 16.
