When flooding struck the CFISD community last month, Cypress Creek High School senior Blake Hughes—a volunteer with the Cypress Creek Volunteer Fire Department—spent nearly 39 hours helping those affected by the disaster. Hughes, whose father also works for the Cypress Creek VFD, performed multiple rescues in the days after the flood. He often volunteers overnight and attends school the following day. “I can’t think of a better example of a great young man,” said Jason Hawkins, Cypress Creek assistant principal.
