Five Cy Creek students have qualified for the UIL Class 6A Academic State Meet, to be held May 23-25 at the University of Texas at Austin.
These students have advanced both through district and regional competition in April to earn their spot at the academic state championship. To advance to the state meet, students placed first, second, or third at the UIL Region III Academic Meet, held April 29-30 at Cypress Woods High School. With a total of four regions in Conference 6A, advancing to UIL State typically places students among the top 12 in Texas in their respective academic categories.
The following students placed among the top six at the UIL Region III Academic Meet.  Individuals placing in the top three have advanced to UIL State, and students placing fourth through sixth are alternates:
  • Lydia Estepp, Feature Writing – fourth place (alternate);
  • Miranda Duncan, News Writing – first place;
  • Chloe Trejo, News Writing – second place;
Additionally, Cy Creek had 2 students, Daniel Lehmann and Colin Price, advance to the state level in Cross-Examination Debate earlier this semester. While this contest, also known as policy debate, is held separately from the others, it is still considered part of the UIL Academics umbrella. The state meet was held at UT-Austin in March during spring break.

Students who participate in the UIL Academic State Meet during any year of high school may apply as seniors for a dedicated pool of scholarship funds through the Texas Interscholastic League Foundation. TILF aims to encourage academically talented students to stay in Texas when pursuing higher education, and will disburse more than $1 million to more than 600 students during a typical year to attend colleges and universities throughout Texas.  More information on the scholarships is available here:http://tilf.uiltexas.org/scholarships/list/.  The deadline for eligible students to apply is May 27.
